H LINE » Of the many bridges that span the Potomac River here, only 2 are active. In the foreground are the remains of a prior road bridge that connected Maryland on the left and West Virginia on the right. The higher further piers are what remains of the old Shenandoah Valley Railroad bridge that stood until 1917. Finally, the present and former Norfolk and Western railroad bridge that Norfolk Southern train 13R is seen high above the water. Another bridge stood in the immediate foreground but was totally demolished upon completion of the current road
